Where is the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection located?
The Boscombe Down Aviation Collection is located at Hangar 1 South, Old Sarum Airfield, near Salisbury in Wiltshire. Please note that we are based at Old Sarum Airfield and not on the MOD Boscombe Down site.
What can I see at the air museum?
Visitors can explore a wide range of historic aircraft cockpits, flight decks, simulators, and aviation artefacts connected to British military aviation and flight testing, many of which can be viewed up close.
Can visitors sit in the aircraft cockpits?
Yes, selected aircraft cockpits are open for visitors to sit in and explore. This hands-on experience is one of the unique features of the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection.
Is the museum suitable for children and families?
Yes, the museum is family-friendly and popular with children. We do ask that children are supervised at all times, particularly around aircraft and cockpit exhibits.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome.
Do you offer group visits or school trips?
Yes, we welcome group visits, school trips, and organised parties. Group visits must be booked in advance, and discounts may be available for larger groups.
What are the opening days and times?
The museum is typically open Tuesday to Sunday, with seasonal opening times. We recommend checking the Plan Your Visit page for the most up-to-date opening hours before travelling.
Is the museum accessible for visitors with disabilities?
We provide reasonably level access to the hangar on request. However, some cockpits and exhibits may have limited accessibility due to their historic nature.
Is parking available on site?
Yes, parking is available near the museum. Please follow on-site signage and ensure you park in the correct areas designated for museum visitors.
Do you have a shop or refreshments available?
Yes, we have a small shop selling aviation-related items. Limited refreshments may be available depending on the day and volunteer availability.
Who runs the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection?
