In order to help celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Boscombe Down in 2007 it was decided by members of BDAC to build a full scale replica of the first aircraft to land on Boscombe Down Airfield on November 1917 a BE2 B. After 5 years of hard work by a team of 5 volunteers plus some outside help the result was 2783.
The aircraft is built from non-aviation specified material and therefore could never be legally flown in the UK. Minor changes were made to the construction to enable the aircraft to be rigged and de-rigged with relative ease for transportation. |
